The Whole Duty of Man

We like to pinpoint to God what we want and blame when things don't go our way. What's forgotten is that we are in a relationship with him. He created us to depend on him. It is good to call on him for guidance, help, healing, and so much more. He wants us to talk to him. The door was opened when he sent us Jesus Christ to become our mediator, between us and him. We always want him to do for us. But there is a whole duty of man which is our responsibility to him.

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Imagine this being the big question with the answer. Once we accept Jesus, it does not stop there. Our relationship with him is life building. To fear God is to give him honor and reverence for who he is and what he is to you. Your relationship with him is personal because it is between you and him. At the end of life, he is the final judge. To keep his commandments is to apply them in your life. Jesus gave a summary of the ten commandments to love the Lord thy God with all thine heart and to love thy neighbor as thyself. The bible is inspired with scripture cross-referencing, where the same message is found in other bible passages for our understanding.

The whole duty of man is written in Micah 6:8 - “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” To do justly is to be fair while seeking his wisdom to make the correct decision. To love mercy is the blessing that each of us receive every morning. Jesus said blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. People make the word of God complex. It is just a matter of what you are going to do. He does everything for us. He open doors, blesses us, provides for us, forgives us, and so much more. To walk humbly with thy God means to become the servant and not the master. Jesus humbled himself to experience life for us, but had no sin. He is an example for us.

“Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.” To fulfill our duty to God, he wrote the ten commandments which is our guide to live for him. The sabbath day commandment remains a sign that connects us with him. The moral laws, which is the Ten Commandments, a reflection of God himself, were not abolished at the cross. It remains our duty to study and apply them in our life.

“And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul.” God wants our whole heart to walk in all his good, spiritual, and kind ways. It may sound like a lot, but it is not. He would not give these commands to us if he knew we could not do them. We must humble ourselves before him and each other. The requirements are written throughout the word. Our life in him is a journey with heaven the final destination. Try one at at time. We all are in different points in this journey and we learn differently. He does not give us a timeframe. He just says to pray and stay before him. God does not want anything extra. He tell us exactly what he requires of us. He is worthy of all the praise. He is so good to us!

The way to to get to the requirements of justice, love, and humility is to accept Jesus Christ, "confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus...". It is in him that change will happen. The reward is the gift of eternal life. Fear God, acknowledge him, and thank him in your life. In conclusion, Jesus stands at the door and knock. When we do the whole duty of man, he will come to you and pour out his mercies. He does not ask physical things of us. He justs wants your full heart of love and humility for him. He truly is amazing and his authority is eternity.
