Job 1,2; Ecclesiastes 3:3; Jeremiah 29:11
Our God the Father is good all the time. He is holy and righteous and all goodness flows from him. Jesus told his listeners that none is good but God. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.” He owns everything. Many question with the goodness of God, why is there so much evil in the world.
The spirit of evil began in heaven with an archangel named Lucifer. He wanted to be in the place of Jesus. He tried to steal the throne, praise and honor from God. When he refused to turn from his own pride and self-indulgence, he and the 1/3 of the angels that followed him, were cast to the earth. This is where he sought to take the love of God from a “perfect and upright man” name Job.
God could have destroyed Satan. But the goodness of God is to save. Instead, God allows good and evil to run its course. “There is a time to every purpose for everything under the heaven.” He gives man the opportunity to choose love or hate. To choose him or Satan. God knew that there were many witnesses, the remaining enumerable angels and the other worlds that had not fallen who would see his response to evil.
Job was held at the highest esteem. He was greatly blessed with family, wealth and health. All the blessings that any man would want. But he had something far greater that enemy failed to understand. Job loved God. When Satan was given the opportunity, he took everything from Job and then he smote him with boils. Not even the pain of flesh separated Job from the love of God.
In the testimony of Job, it is clear that Satan is the source of evil. When given the opportunity, he will attempt to steal, kill and destroy all that which is good and right. Thank God for his love and grace. God will deliver. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” It is God’s will to give us the best. When the enemy attacks us, God has made a way of deliverance through our savior Jesus Christ. He wants every man to know Him.
One way to know God is for him to allow the forces of evil. The source of evil remains from Satan. God does not force his will on man. He gives man a choice. In all of Job’s trouble, he did not give up on God or blame him for his troubles. Instead he fell down and worshipped him, turning to God to deliver him from his troubles. Our focus is not on what the enemy has done, but on what God is doing. To many there seems like there is no end to evil. Not true. Evil lost its way when Jesus Christ died and rose from his death with all power in heaven, in earth, and under the earth. He is our deliverer in times of trouble.
Just as Job was restored double at the end of his troubles, there will be restoration in the earth like never before. “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
