Daniel 4; Galatians 5:1
Throughout the bible there is a resounding message that God wants you. He has no respect of person. All peoples are given the opportunity to believe in him and to accept his gift of salvation. The people of Israel were given warnings regarding their disobedience. When they did not take heed, judgment was given. But God always kept a remnant. His love for us is everlasting.
The life of King Nebuchadnezzar is a very compelling story of salvation. He was a pagan king of Babylon, who had his own chapter in the bible. He was lost, but God wanted him. One night he had a troubling dream about a huge tree that was cut down and the leaves and fruit were scattered. The root was all that remained from the tree. He called for Daniel, who had the divine gift to interpret dreams.
Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar that in the dream, the tree that was cut down was him, signifying that he would lose his position. The root remained, he was not destroyed. His pride and self-gratification was his downfall. Israel was taken from their land for seventy-years but was allowed to return. God is so merciful that he gives us the opportunity to return to our roots, even the king. God chastise us in love. The life of this king tells us that no one is beyond his judgement and forgiveness.
After twelve months had passed, Nebuchadnezzar walked into his palace. He had been forewarned in that dream. He took great pride in his great Babylon, not in the God the Creator of all things. It was then that his heart was changed to the heart of a beast and he was taken from his kingdom for seven years.
God gave us Christ to make us free from bondage. It is through him that we are at liberty to choose salvation, not forced. We serve God because we love him. We must walk in the spirit, be aware of the lust of the flesh, which contrasts with the Spirit. He calls us to humble ourselves. The sinful king is proof that God wants you. He wants you to want him. In return we love each other. Choose the love of God through Jesus Christ.
Nebuchadnezzar lived the life of beast for seven years until the day of salvation came to him. He lifted up his eyes unto heaven and his understanding returned. He had a new heart which blessed and praise the Most High. He acknowledged the everlasting dominion of God and his power to do whatever he wants to do. Only God can! God saved the king.
This is the time to recognize that your help comes from Jesus. Your journey of salvation personal. Only you can make this choice. The angels rejoice over one soul. King Nebuchadnezzar’s testimony needs to be told because it tells that God can save you. Jesus came and did it just for you. Today God wants you.
