Sermon Take Away: A Steward of Your Soul

Scripture: Matthew 25:1-13

With so many disasters and personal tragedies, there is much discussion regarding the second advent of Jesus Christ. We don’t know when he will return, but he has told us that he will return for his people. “Watch therefore: for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” These are the times to remain faithful in prayer and study. It is extremely important that we do all we can to stay closely knitted to Jesus Christ.

Jesus taught in parables. Parables are short narratives with a spiritual and moral message. In the gospel of Matthew 25, the ten virgins were believers of Jesus Christ. They spent a devoted life of study, prayer, and praise to the service of the Lord. This is what we must continue, while we watch the many upsets that are happenings within our own territories and throughout the world.

The five foolish virgins thought that Christ had delayed his coming. They became slack in their devotion to him. In other words, Christ did not come when they thought he would appear. The Lord does not tell us the day nor the hour of his return. We must trust the Holy Spirit to reveal all things to us, according to his inspired word. When we become complacent in prayer, study or discussion regarding the coming of Christ, our spirit is weakened. When Jesus the bridegroom returned, the foolish virgins were not ready. They requested that the five wise virgins give them oil for their lamps. To late! Upon, his arrival, we can’t do anything to help each other. The wise virgins did not lose faith, but they held on to their trust in the word of God.

When our Savior makes his glorious appearance, we must be ready. As we continue to see the world spiraling in constant turmoil and concerns are raised about the second coming of Christ, remain faithful. Continue to seek the Lord and you will find him. Continue to strengthen your spirit in his love and power. As you take care of your most treasured possession, your soul, you will be ready when the midnight call is heard.
